What does 2 Corinthians 5:2 mean?

2 Corinthians 5:2 describes Paul’s longing for a heavenly dwelling while he experiences the strain of present bodily life. His groaning expresses both discomfort with his present condition and an eager desire for what he calls a house from heaven.

Paul uses the images of a house and clothing to speak about bodily life. After calling the present body an earthly tent in verse 1, he pictures the heavenly dwelling as something to be put on.
