Light of the world
Sermon on the Mount
Lord, you said, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” I seek you now.
Jeremiah 29:13
Holy Spirit, open my eyes, that I may see wonderful things in your word.
Psalm 119:18
You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water.
Psalm 63:1
14Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. 15Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. 16Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
- Jesus says, “You are the light of the world.” Where are you hiding your light under a bowl: in silence, in fear, in shame?
- He says, “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father.” Who gets the glory for the good you do?
- A lamp on its stand “gives light to everyone in the house.” How is your faith seen by those closest to you at home?
His word
Jesus, you said, “You are the light of the world.”
Receive
Take my light out from under the bowl. Let it shine, so that others may see and glorify the Father.
Thanks
Thank you that you are the light, and that in you I am light too. Amen.
