Shared with you
Giving in secret
Sermon on the Mount
Father, give me the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that I may know you better.
Ephesians 1:17
Spirit of truth, guide me into all the truth.
John 16:13
You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water.
Psalm 63:1
1Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven. 2Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. 3But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: 4That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.
- Jesus warns, “Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them.” What good thing do you do partly so that others will notice?
- If no one ever knew about your giving, would you still give the same way?
- He says, “Do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing.” Do you keep a quiet record of your own generosity?
His word
Jesus, you said, “Your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”
Receive
Free me from needing to be seen. I give for you alone, and I receive the reward you promise.
Thanks
Thank you, Father, that you see me in secret. Amen.
