Shared with you
The rock and the sand
Sermon on the Mount
Lord, you said, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” I seek you now.
Jeremiah 29:13
Holy Spirit, open my eyes, that I may see wonderful things in your word.
Psalm 119:18
You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water.
Psalm 63:1
24Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: 25And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. 26And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: 27And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.
- Jesus says everyone who hears his words and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. Which of his words in these weeks have you heard but not yet put into practice?
- What part of your life is still built on sand: your own strength, your plans, other people’s approval?
- “The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew.” What storm are you facing, and what is it showing about your foundation?
His word
Jesus, you said, “Everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.”
Receive
I do not want only to hear you. Make me a doer of your words, and build my life on you.
Thanks
Thank you that you are the rock that does not fall. Amen.
