Ask, seek, knock
Sermon on the Mount
Lord, you said, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” I seek you now.
Jeremiah 29:13
Holy Spirit, open my eyes, that I may see wonderful things in your word.
Psalm 119:18
You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water.
Psalm 63:1
7Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: 8For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. 9Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? 10Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? 11If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?
- Jesus says, “Ask and it will be given to you.” What have you stopped asking God for?
- “Seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened.” Where have you given up seeking before he answered?
- He asks which of you would give your child a stone when they ask for bread. Do you secretly suspect God of giving you stones?
His word
Jesus, you said, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”
Receive
So I ask, I seek, and I knock. I trust you to give what is good.
Thanks
Thank you, Father, that you give good gifts to those who ask you. Amen.
