Psalms 67:2 (KJV)

What does Psalms 67:2 mean?

Psalms 67:2 expresses a desire that God’s ways and His saving power would become known to everyone on earth, not just to Israel. The verse looks forward to all nations experiencing and recognizing God’s help and deliverance.

The psalm is a prayer, likely sung by the people of Israel, asking God to bless them so that His character and salvation would be seen by the whole world. The focus is outward, hoping that God’s goodness to Israel would lead every nation to understand who He is and what He can do.

The Hebrew behind Psalms 67:2

• way (דֶּרֶךְ, derek): This word means a path or manner of living. Here, it points to God’s way of acting—His character, guidance, and what He expects from people.
• known (יָדַע, yada‘): This word means to know deeply or be made aware of. The verse asks that God’s way would be clearly recognized and understood by all people, not hidden or secret.
• health (יְשׁוּעָה, yeshu‘ah): Often translated as “salvation” or “deliverance,” this word means rescue or saving help. The verse is about God’s power to save, not just physical health.
• nations (גּוֹי, goy): This word refers to all the peoples or ethnic groups outside Israel. The verse is inclusive, looking beyond Israel to the whole world.

Why Psalms 67:2 matters

• Psalms 67:2 shows that God’s concern is not limited to Israel; the verse highlights a hope for all nations to know Him.
• The verse clarifies that God’s “way” and “salvation” are meant to be visible and accessible, not hidden or exclusive.
• This verse connects to the larger theme of the psalm, which is a prayer for blessing so that God’s fame and saving power would spread to every corner of the earth.
