What does 2 Chronicles 26:16 mean?

2 Chronicles 26:16 describes a turning point for King Uzziah. After becoming powerful, he grew proud and acted against the LORD, his God, by entering the temple to burn incense. The verse presents his action as the path to his ruin.

The phrase “his heart was lifted up” pictures an inner sense of superiority. Coming after the account of Uzziah’s growing fame in verse 15, the verse shifts attention from his outward success to the attitude behind his next action.
