What does Ezekiel 24:22 mean?

Ezekiel 24:22 says that the people will respond to a terrible loss by following Ezekiel’s example. They will not perform certain customary signs of mourning, including covering their lips and eating food supplied by others.

Ezekiel speaks to the people after announcing the coming loss of the temple and their children in verse 21. His own response to his wife’s death has become a sign of how they will respond to their loss.
