Psalms 61:7 asks that the king continue in God’s presence and be protected by God’s mercy and truth. The speaker pictures the king’s lasting place before God as something secured by God’s care, not merely by the king’s own strength.

Following the request for the king’s life in verse 6, the speaker turns to the king’s place “before God.” The words “mercy and truth” are pictured almost as guards, appointed to watch over him.
