Psalms 90:9 describes a community looking back on its short life under God’s anger. The speakers understand their passing years not simply as the ordinary movement of time, but as years lived under that anger.

The words “our” and “we” make this a shared lament, or expression of grief. The image of “a tale that is told” compares a lifetime to something spoken and finished; after verse 8, the mention of anger also carries the thought of human wrongdoing into verse 9.
