What does John 15:13 mean?

John 15:13 presents giving up one’s life for friends as the greatest expression of love. Jesus measures love here by the cost a person is willing to bear for others, not simply by what that person feels or says.

Jesus is speaking to his disciples, the people who have followed him and learned from him. After telling them to love one another in verse 12, he gives them a picture of love at its fullest: a person facing death for the sake of friends.
