What does Mark 11:10 mean?

Mark 11:10 records a crowd welcoming Jesus with hope that the rule associated with their ancestor King David is coming. Their words connect Jesus’ arrival with that hope and call for praise to reach the highest heaven.

The crowd is speaking as Jesus approaches Jerusalem. After blessing the one who comes in the Lord’s name in verse 9, the crowd blesses the coming kingdom itself. Calling David “our father” presents him as an ancestor of the people, not their immediate parent.
