What does Psalms 38:22 mean?

Psalms 38:22 ends with a plea for God to act quickly on behalf of someone in distress. By calling the Lord “my salvation,” the speaker identifies God as the one from whom he seeks rescue.

After asking God not to be far away in verse 21, the speaker asks for more than a sense of nearness: he wants help. The personal word “my” makes the closing address direct and individual.

The Hebrew behind Psalms 38:22

• “help” — עֶזְרָה (ʿezrah): The word means aid or assistance. The phrase has the sense of coming to someone’s aid, picturing help as a response to a person in need.
• “salvation” — תְּשׁוּעָה (teshuʿah): The word means deliverance or rescue. Here, “my salvation” addresses the Lord as the source of that rescue.

Why Psalms 38:22 matters

• The request is urgent, not simply a wish for help someday. “Make haste” gives the closing plea its force.
