What does Jeremiah 42:9 mean?

Jeremiah 42:9 marks the beginning of Jeremiah’s answer to the people who had asked him to pray for them. He introduces his message as coming from the LORD, the God of Israel, rather than as his own advice.

The people had sent Jeremiah to bring their request before God. His opening words connect the answer he is about to give with that request, after the waiting described in verse 7.
