Ecclesiastes 3:11 says that God has made things fitting for their appointed times, yet people cannot see the whole of what God is doing. The verse places human awareness of a world beyond the present alongside the limits of human understanding.

The speaker, often called the Teacher, moves from the human tasks mentioned in verse 10 to a wider view of God’s work. The phrase “from the beginning to the end” pictures that work as a whole, rather than as the part a person can observe at one moment.

The Hebrew behind Ecclesiastes 3:11

  • “beautiful” — יָפֶה (yafeh): This word can mean beautiful or fitting. Here, “in his time” links that quality to the right time for each thing.
  • “world” — עֹלָם (olam): This word can refer to a long span of time or to what lasts beyond the immediate present. The KJV’s “world” may sound like the physical earth, but the Hebrew often points to time stretching beyond what people can see.
