What does Joshua 19:35 mean?

Joshua 19:35 names five fortified towns within the land assigned to the tribe of Naphtali. “Fenced” means that the towns had defenses, such as walls; it does not mean that they were enclosed by the kind of fence common today.

The verse is part of a description of Naphtali’s assigned territory. The town names give the reader recognizable places within that area, and the list continues in the following verses.
