What does Proverbs 30:4 mean?

Proverbs 30:4 uses a series of questions to point beyond ordinary human ability to the one who rules the world. The questions challenge the listener to identify anyone who can move between heaven and earth and command the forces of nature.

After Agur speaks of the limits of his own understanding, he asks these questions as a challenge to his listener. The images make wind and water seem like things that could be held in a hand or wrapped in clothing, while “the ends of the earth” brings the whole world into view. The final question asks for the person’s name and his son’s name.
