What does Jeremiah 4:8 mean?

Jeremiah 4:8 calls the people of Judah to express deep grief because the LORD’s fierce anger is still directed toward them. The danger facing them is not over, so their public mourning is a response to a continuing threat.

After the warning of an approaching destroyer in verse 7, Jeremiah calls for sackcloth, a rough garment associated with grief. “Lament and howl” calls for loud expressions of sorrow. By saying “from us,” Jeremiah includes himself among the people facing the danger.
