What does Luke 6:14 mean?

Luke 6:14 begins naming the people Jesus chose from among his followers to be his twelve apostles, the people he sent out as his representatives. The verse identifies six of them and notes two personal connections within the group.

Luke, the narrator, calls Simon by both his original name and the name Peter, which Jesus gave him. The verse also identifies Andrew as Simon’s brother. The list continues in the following verses.
