Matthew 24:25 (KJV)

What does Matthew 24:25 mean?

Matthew 24:25 records Jesus telling His disciples, “Behold, I have told you before,” emphasizing that He is warning them ahead of time about future events. Jesus wants His followers to remember that He has already given them clear information so they will not be caught off guard.

In this part of Matthew, Jesus is speaking privately to His disciples about coming troubles and signs before His return. By saying this, Jesus highlights His role as a trustworthy guide who prepares His followers for what is to come, urging them to pay close attention to His words.

The Greek behind Matthew 24:25

• “Behold” (ἰδού, idou): This Greek word is often used to draw attention, like saying “Look!” or “Pay attention!” Jesus uses it here to make sure the disciples notice the importance of what He is saying.
• “Told…before” (προείρηκα, proeirēka): This word combines the ideas of “speaking” and “beforehand.” It stresses that Jesus is not giving new information in the moment but reminding them that He has already warned them in advance.
• “You” (ὑμῖν, hymin): This is a direct address to the disciples, making it clear that the warning is personal and meant specifically for them.

Why Matthew 24:25 matters

• Matthew 24:25 shows that Jesus wants His followers to be prepared, not surprised, by future events—He is not keeping them in the dark.
• This verse helps clear up the idea that Jesus’ teachings about the end times were mysterious or hidden; instead, He says He has spoken openly and ahead of time.
• The verse connects to the larger context of Matthew 24, where Jesus repeatedly warns against being misled, highlighting the importance of remembering His words when confusing or troubling times come.
